As a professional dog care provider, my goal is always to provide a safe, stress-free, and enjoyable experience for your dog. I also know that handing over the leash to someone new can be nerve-wracking. I truly understand how hard it is to leave your dog with a walker or sitter for the first time—they aren’t just "pets," they are family members. Please know that I don't take that trust lightly. Your dog is in the hands of an experienced, loving professional who cares for them as if they were my own.
A huge part of ensuring that peace of mind happens before I even arrive! By following these simple preparation steps, you help ensure that every walk, visit, or ride is as smooth and safe as possible.
1. Safety First: The Well-Fitted Harness
When we are out and about, safety is my top priority. I require all dogs to wear a well-fitted harness for two primary reasons:
Car Safety: Since I frequently transport dogs, a harness is non-negotiable. It allows me to secure your dog safely with a seatbelt attachment, protecting them during the drive.
Walking Comfort: Harnesses are much safer for a dog’s neck and spine than collars, especially for pups who might be prone to pulling or getting excited. Please make sure the harness is adjusted properly before I arrive!
2. A Note on Leashes
Please don’t worry about digging out your leashes or worrying if they are "good enough." I have a million of them! Over the last few years, I have tried and tested so many different styles, and I have a personal favorite that I use for almost every adventure. I always come prepared with the best, most secure gear to keep them safe.
3. Hassle-Free Entry & Exit
Time is of the essence when it comes to getting your dog out for their exercise.
Keyless Entry: If you have a smart lock or keypad, this is my preferred method! It eliminates the need for physical key handling and provides a secure, loggable entry.
Key Management: If you use a physical key, please keep it in a designated, easily accessible spot (like a lockbox or a specific hook) so I can get in and out quickly to maximize your dog’s time with me.
4. Visible & Ready Resources
Help me help your dog by keeping their essentials in sight. Please leave their water bowls in a consistent, visible, and easy-to-reach area. If I need to refill a bowl or provide a quick treat after a long walk, having everything organized in one spot ensures I’m spending my time focused on your dog, not searching for supplies.
5. The Power of Calm Departures
If you are home when I arrive, try to keep the "goodbyes" low-key. Dogs take their cues from us; if a departure is calm and quiet, it helps your dog stay in a relaxed mindset rather than getting over-aroused or anxious. A simple, short goodbye is the best way to set the tone for a great walk.

6. Weather-Awareness
Our schedule often depends on the elements! During hot summer days or rainy spells, I may need to adjust the intensity or duration of a walk to keep your dog comfortable and safe. If you have specific preferences for how your dog handles mud, heat, or cold, please let me know so we can have a "Plan B" ready for those tricky weather days.
7. Communication is Key
Things change, and that’s okay—but please keep me in the loop! Whether it’s a change in your work schedule, a medication update, or if your dog seems "off" in the morning, proactive communication is vital. If I know what to expect, I can adjust my approach to better support your dog's needs that day.
8. Consistency and Positive Reinforcement
I love to reinforce the training you are working on at home! If there are specific cues, walking boundaries, or reward markers (like a "yes!" or a clicker) you are currently using, please share them with me. Consistency across the board makes life much easier for your dog and helps them understand what is expected of them in every environment.
